Very nice aluminium Wehrmacht Infanterie related tag in used, but excellent condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in the 10.Kompanie Infanterie Regiment 454. This unit was formed in August 1939 and was part of the 254.Infanterie-Division. With this division if saw its first combat during the invasion of Belgium and then France. After the defeat of France the division and her units stayed in France as a coastal defence division. In November the III.Bataillon (9.-12.Kompanie) was used to form Infanterie Regiment 586 which was part of the 320.Infanterie-Division.
A new III.Bataillon was formed straight after. The 254.Infanterie-Division saw combat on the Russian front since September 1941 in areas like Leningrad, Wolchow, Tarnopol and later the Karpaten.
The 'A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
