1.Stammkp.Gren.Ers.Btl.459 EKM
Nice worn dog tag from a soldier who served in the 1.Stamm Kompanie Grenadier Ersatz Bataillon 459.
The dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows normal signs of wear. The Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 459 was formed in September 1939 in Eisenach and supplied men to Infanterie Regiment 459 which was part of the 251.Infanterie-Division.
In November 1942 the ersatz bataillon was renamed in Grenadier Ersatz Bataillon 459.
In March 1945 the ersatz bataillon was mobilized as part of the Grenadier Ausbildungs Regiment 519.
A Stammkompanie was a unit that trained the soldiers. Often the soldiers of this companie were soldiers who had frontline experience, but no longer were fully usable on the front due to injuries. Of course this changed later in the war and they also where put into action as there was a shortage of (front)soldiers.
The 'Bl.A' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype (blutgruppe AB).
