The dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in the '1.Batterie Leichte Artillerie Ersatz Abteilung 3'. This abteilung was formed in August 1939 in Frankfurt an der Ober with 2 light batteries. In November it was part of Division Nr.143. In 1942 the Abteilung was split into a Ersatz and a Reserve Abteilung. The ersatz abteilung stayed in Frankfurt and fell under Division Nr.433 in June 1943.
The ersatz unit trained soldiers for the following Artillerie units; Artillerie Abteilung 602. Artillerie Regiment 3,123,279,293,359.
