The dog tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in 1.Batterie Ersatz Abteilung Artillerie Regiment 253. This regiment was part of the 253.Infanterie-Division. With this division it saw combat during the invasion of Belgium and France. On the 28th of June the division and its units participated in the invasion on Russia. It fought in areas like Welikije Luki, Rshew,Jelnja,Bobruisk,Cholm,Beskiden and was captured by the Russians in April 1945 in Mähren.
