Very nice Landesschützen Bataillon 493 tag in used, but excellent condition.
The tag or 'Erkennungsmarke' shows overall normal signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served within the 1.Kompanie Landesschützen Bataillon 493. This bataillon was formed in January 1941 in Oelde. It was fromed, from Infanterie Regiment 627, to guard prisoners (Kriegsgefangenenbewachung).
In February 1942 the bataillon was used to form Festungs Bataillon 642 and moved to Norway. In 1944 it saw action in Pripjet and the area of Brest-Litowsk.
The 'O' on both parts of the tag stands for the soldier's bloodtype.
