Nice worn dog tag from a soldier who served in the 4(MG) Kompanie Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 474.

The dog tag shows overall signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in 4.Kompanie M.G. Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 474. The bataillon was formed in August 1939 in Herford and trained soldiers for the 254.Infanterie-Division. This division saw its first combat during the invasion Holland, Belgium and then France. In June 1941 the division participated in Operation Barbarossa and saw combat in areas like Riga, Leningrad,Wolchow, Demjansk and Karpaten. The Ersatz Bataillon 474 was moved to Belgium in Juli 1940, Vielsalm. In October 1942 the bataillon was stationed in Bastogne. The Ersatz Bataillon was disbanned in late 1944.
