The dog tag shows overall signs of wear. It belonged to a soldier who served in 4.Kompanie M.G. Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 77.The regiment was formed in August 1939 in Koln and trained soldiers for the 26.Infanterie-Division. This division saw its first combat in May 1940 in Luxemburg before invading France. It later moved to the east to fight in Russia. In 1941 the Ersatz Bataillon moved to Maastricht (Holland). In late 1942 the bataillon became part of Division Nr.526. In September 1944 it fought against the British forces during Operation Market Garden.
The dog tag is broken, but complete and solid.
